At Reitir, sustainability is central to our mission.
Skrunaðu
We are dedicated to environmental responsibility, social equity, and transparent governance in all our operations. Our commitment aligns with Icelandic laws and European Union regulations, ensuring we contribute positively to our community and the environment.
We focus on developing eco-friendly commercial and residential properties, fostering long-term relationships with our tenants while minimizing environmental impact. Our sustainability efforts include detailed reporting on greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, and water consumption. We aim to reduce our carbon footprint and enhance resource efficiency continuously.
Reitir's sustainability policies cover human rights, equal opportunities, anti-corruption measures, and community engagement. We support various charities and align our initiatives with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By promoting ethical practices and transparent reporting, we strive to set a standard for responsible business in the real estate sector. Our Sustainable Development Goals
The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent an action plan for humanity, the planet, and prosperity. Through Reitir's corporate social responsibility strategy, we are committed to taking decisive steps towards a sustainable future within the areas relevant to our operations.
Our staff reviewed the SDGs together and assessed our operations in relation to this action plan. The outcome of this work showed that Reitir can best contribute in the following categories:
8. Decent Work and Economic Growth
11. Sustainable Cities and Communities
12. Responsible Consumption and Production
Promoting sustainable economic growth and providing profitable and dignified employment opportunities. Reitir emphasizes equal pay and the equal right of individuals to employment in our policies. We also stress the importance of respecting human rights, such as labor rights, the right to freedom of association, and good working conditions. This requirement extends to our clients and contractors involved in our construction projects.
Making cities and residential areas safe, sustainable, and accessible to all. By responsibly selecting tenants for Reitir’s operating areas, we aim to enhance the urban environment and reduce the need for polluting transportation. We seek to increase carbon-offsetting greenery around parking areas and other undeveloped spaces in consultation with our tenants. Through our participation in the Green Building Council, Reitir supports professional discussions and research in the field of sustainable planning and construction, as well as promoting education on the subject.
Ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns. The environmental guidelines set forth in Reitir's policies emphasize responsible consumption and production. Reitir was the first Icelandic real estate company to offer green leases in 2013. In these agreements, tenants are encouraged to choose environmentally certified products, opt for eco-friendlier operations, record energy and water usage, and strive to reduce waste.
